Provider applications open·New Zealand
Better Buildings connects building owners, bank finance and the providers who do the work.
Tether measures how commercial buildings perform and turns the results into upgrade business cases owners can fund through their bank. ASB is the founding bank partner in New Zealand. The marketplace is the network that delivers the work, and this is the application to join it.

01·The platform
Owners see what their building could save. Finance is attached. The work needs doing.
A building owner connects their building to Better Buildings. The platform models which upgrades are worth doing, a professional assessment verifies the numbers on site, the business case goes to the owner's bank, and the scoped work goes out to the marketplace as structured requests for quote.
Qualified demand
Owners arrive having already seen a modelled business case for their building, so the budget conversation has happened before you are asked to quote.
One quote format
Requests for quote arrive in a structured format and responses are compared like for like: cost, timeline, warranty and notes. You have 5 to 10 business days to respond.
Funding attached
Winning quotes feed the business case the owner takes to their bank, including ASB sustainable lending. You are quoting on work with a funding pathway, not a wish list.
02·Joining
Four steps between here and your first request for quote.
Apply
10 to 15 minutes. Your company, your offerings, your typical rates.
Get verified
We check references, insurance, health and safety prequalification and code-of-conduct alignment.
Receive requests
Structured requests for quote in your categories and regions, with the building context you need to price.
Win and deliver
Delivery is verified, and verified outcomes strengthen your standing for the next request.
03·What we need
Providers of cost and carbon reduction work, across ten categories.
The buildings are office, warehouse, cool-store, retail and aged care across New Zealand. If you do the work below, we want your application.
Do something that cuts a building's operating cost or carbon and does not fit a box? Apply under Other products and services, tell us the outcome it drives and the category you would give it.
04·Fees
Fees, plainly.
You pay nothing to join and nothing to quote. When work won through the platform completes, a success fee applies, and we confirm the rate with every founding provider before the marketplace launches. If the model changes, you hear it from us first.
05·Your numbers
Your rates calibrate the platform.
They stay confidential.
The application asks for your typical rates and performance figures, and ranges are fine. They set what owners are shown for work like yours, so the requests that reach you are pre-qualified against realistic expectations rather than optimistic guesses.
Your numbers are commercially confidential. They are used inside the platform to shape estimates and route work, and they are never shown to other providers.
06·Standards
The marketplace runs on bank-grade supplier standards.
ASB supports the marketplace in New Zealand, so providers align with the principles of the ASB Supplier Code of Conduct. The application closes with a short set of confirmations:
07·Questions
Asked so far.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. There is no joining fee and no fee to quote. A success fee applies only on work won through the platform, and the rate is confirmed with you before the marketplace launches.
Who sees my rates?
Tether. Your rates and performance figures are used inside the platform to calibrate estimates and route work. They are never shown to other providers, and quotes are only shared with the building owner they are for.
Which buildings does Better Buildings cover?
Offices, warehouses, cool-stores, retail and aged care across New Zealand at launch, with more building types to follow.
When does work start flowing?
Verification starts as applications arrive, and founding providers are confirmed first. Requests for quote follow the platform's launch with ASB.
What does verification involve?
References, insurance cover, health and safety prequalification, trade licensing where it applies, and alignment with the supplier code of conduct. Most of it comes straight from your application.
Do I need NABERSNZ or Green Star experience?
No. Familiarity helps on some jobs, and the request will say when a rating pathway matters. NABERSNZ rates the energy performance of office buildings; Green Star Performance covers other building types.
